Writing in the "I" voice is the easiest one and the hardest one. My goal to inform and get my 10 year old snake into the classroom. The snake's tank is 48" long and almost 20" deep, so there was plenty of rearranging to find a spot so that the kids could get access to the tank.
The piece of writing that I started in August was how I taught about writing for a purpose and certain audience.
Here is the piece that was sent home. We were still making editorial changes which was cool because the kids really saw how long it takes to get writing to be really clear communication. All the permission slips had to be signed and the box checked yes by all the parents of the students for Clarissssa to be allowed in my classroom.
The permission slip went home 2 days ago, 17 are in after two days--and to the relief of my 4th graders---all yes!!! They are very vested in this piece of writing.
